Moving forward in its quest for relevant partnerships towards the achievement of its visionary goals of becoming one of the top ten universities in the world by the year 2022, Covenant University on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, welcomed a team from John Holt & Company Plc. and its technical partner, Rosenbauer.
While making his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Charles Korede Ayo, appreciated the team for coming and for their intention and efforts to sensitize the university on safety consciousness.
The Vice Chancellor stated, “The documents have been sent to the Director, Physical Planning and Development of the University who would deliberate on your proposal and get across to you at the shortest possible time.”
In his welcome remarks, the Registrar, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, stated, “Covenant University is number one amongst all private universities in Nigeria and we are committed to raising a new generation of leaders in all fields of human endeavour. Currently, the university is ranked number two among all universities in Nigeria and number 25 in Africa. This is why we are careful with getting into partnerships to make sure it is a partnership that will move us towards our goal to be one of the top ten universities in the world by 2022.”
Making a remark at the meeting, the General Manager, John Holt Plc., Mr. Kris Chike Nwachukwu, who was also the leader of the team, stated that John Holt and Resenbour have been in partnership since 2005 and that Rosenbauer is the world’s number one fire truck manufacturing company.
“We are here today to present to you various products. Covenant University is known to be the number one private university in Nigeria and the university that everyone aspires to send his/her child to. Our enquiries also show that you have over 8,000 students in this institution. We want to partner with you just as we have done with other big establishments like Shell, Chevron, NNPC, etc., to ensure adequate fire safety in your University,” Mr. Nwachukwu stated.
Earlier in his presentation, the Regional Vice President, International Sales of Rosenbauer, Engr. Klaus Horschlager introduced the company as the leading manufacturer of fire fighting vehicles in the fire protection and civil defense sector. It is also the industry’s leader in technology and innovation and the world’s largest provider of specialty vehicles for airports and industry. According to Engr. Horschlager, Rosenbauer‘s mission statement is, “The fire departments are our core customers.”
Engr. Horschlager said their full range of products include, vehicles, aerials, components, equipment, service and business development. He said the vehicles constitute 69% (2012) of Group’s revenues and that the company sells custom-made vehicles with no serial production manufactured in Austria, Germany, Spain, the USA and Singapore. The products, he said, are in high demand for airport vehicles, as well as growing in demand in emerging markets.
The Aerials, he said, constitute 11% (2012) of the Group’s revenue, and are made by Metz Aerials, Karlsruhe, Germany, an advanced manufacturer and supplier of high-tech aerials all over the world; Rosenbauer Aerials, Fremont, NE, USA, and innovative US Standard manufacturer. The components, he said, constitute 4% (2012) of the Group’s revenues and include portable and built-in fire pumps foam proportioning systems, turrets and electronic control systems. He said that Service and Business Development constitute a mere 1% (2012) of the Group’s revenues and includes stationary and semi-stationary fire-fighting installations, online service portal for vehicles and information management system for emergency organizations.
Also present at the meeting were the Director, Physical Planning and Development, Arc. Gbenga Alalade; the Dean, College of Engineering, Professor Cleophas Akintoye Loto; the Deputy Dean, School of Applied Engineering, Professor Claudius Aremu Awosope; the Deputy Dean, School of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Professor Ogbemi Ola Omatete; Professor Abiodun James Omoleye, Department of Chemical Engineering, and members of the Directorate of Media and Corporate Affairs.
